Okay good news I rocked my exam that I was studying for last night. Woot!
However, today went by really fast it was a little too much. I missed the newest episode of "Ringer" which I totally recommend, it's such a good show. But I will definitely catch up as soon as I can.
I also found some uber delish recipes that I can't wait to try and post! So be ready, and I will be participating in The Daring Kitchen's --Daring Baker's Challenge for this month so waaatch out for that at the end of this month.
Because I've been so busy I did not bake anything for this post, however, you will be delighted.
These type of pan dulce is called a "concha" {cOhnchA}. Conchas are usually vanilla or chocolate flavored, but since it's Fall you can find the harvest colors too. Throughout the year bakeries at Hispanic grocery stores usually bake yellow, and pink too. They all taste really good, the different colors are just decorative, but the chocolate colored ones are the only ones that actually taste like chocolate. (The chocolate ones are my favorite)
Anyway so it's a must pan dulce or 'sweet bread' in any Mexican family. I don't actually eat these anymore because they are indeed big and too sweet.
(I want to eat this!!!)
Now, here in Texas we are beginning to feel the cool coming in from [insert cold place here]. And I've prepared myself waay ahead of time I've got my scarves, gloves, leggings and yes, boots.
And as soon as we start to feel the cold here at home, my mom pulls out the hot chocolate, which she makes using "Chocolate Abuelita" or "Grandma's Chocolate" (fyi, I used to be scared of this woman when I was little, so my grandma would hide the box from me, of course now...she still freaks me out a bit). This stuff is legit, and I can assure you this is another item that can be found at all if not mostly all Mexican homes. Each box contains 6 cocoa tablets that can last for ages...if you don't like to share chocolate or just don't make it as often.
(Serve hot, and smell the chocolatey goodness :)
(Serve hot, and smell the chocolatey goodness :)
(I wasn't kidding when I said we swore by it)
(It's enormous and smells soo good)
(1/4 of this tablet makes more than plenty servings)
(One small box with 6 giant chocolate tablets)
Chocolate is pretty easy to make. I've never seen my mom, or anyone in family make just one cup of chocolate with this, it's usually for the masses (hahahaha).
