Happy Be-lated Mardi Gras! Hey...it's still Mardi-Gras week...only it's Lent...:(
I don't know about y'all but every year I give something up, so far it's a little tough just need to find substitutes!
Now, who says it
has to be Mardi-Gras to enjoy some king cake?? Who??
It was quite simple, too simple actually and I just had to share it all with you.
So first I had to find colored frosting and that was hard to find. So I made
colored sugar!!!
King Cake!
Now I gotta say that here at home, we celebrate in January 6 as "Three Kings Day". Long story short because it took the three kings that visited baby Jesus until January 6 to find Bethlehem because they were following a star.
There's more presents (usually just one) that's left inside our shoe or beside our shoe. I don't know what's the story behind the shoe but the night before you're supposed to leave 1 and only 1 shoe out in the living room or if you wanna be really traditional outside....yea no. Anyway, on January 6 we eat something that looks like this....

Rosca de Reyes (Mexican "3" King(s) Cake)
In essence I think the idea is still the same, to have a PARTY!!
There is typically, or depending on which bakery you use the plastic baby Jesus is hidden inside the 'rosca' as we call it! So who ever gets the baby Jesus in their slice must make a party on
February 2nd.
See very similar...
Now for Mardi Gras I had an idea of making a King's Cake however time did not permit :(
So this is what happened.
Cinnamon Roll King Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 Pillsbury cinnamon roll package
- 3/4 cups sugar + 3 tablespoons
- food coloring
Directions: In small containers w/tops separate the sugar, each container should have 1/4 + 1 tablespoon of sugar. Get ready to use all of your food coloring colors. In your first container use the yellow coloring and place 10 drops. Cover and shake it. Shake it well! Shake until the color sets and there are no clumps. Then for your second container use your green coloring and place 14 drops inside and shake until color sets. And for your third sugar container this is to make the color purple you will need to place 15 red drops and 10 blue drops and shake the container until color sets. This is a pretty purple, I had to figure out how to get it just right so that it wouldn't look murky or brown hahaha. | |
